WESLEY COURTLEY DIED MONDAY OF A BULLET WOUND INFLICTED NEW YEARS DAY.
New Year’s Day bears a tragic note for one Red Cliff family, with the death of Wesley Courtley, 38, in the Gilman Hospital early Monday morning, with charges of murder filed against the dead man’s wife, Mildred V. Courtley, 24. The tragedy occurred late New Year’s Day, when Courtley was fired upon as he entered his Red Cliff home around 6 p. m. Town Marshal Frank McDonald summoned to the scene by neighbors, found the wounded man lying just inside the kitchen door and Sheriff W. M. Wilson was notified. He was taken to the Gilman hospital where he lived until 2 a. m. Monday. Mrs. Courtley was brought to Eagle where she was placed under arrest with a charge of murder being made. Questioning by authorities has shown no light on the tragedy as the accused woman has given no reason for the shooting, witnessed by the couple’s three year old son. Both were respected citizens of the community in which they have made their home for the past three years while Mr. Courtley has been an employee of the Fleming Mercantile Company. Mrs E. Palmer of Denver, mother of Mrs. Courtley and a sister of Mrs. Courtly came Sunday to take the Courtley son to Denver for the present. The dead man has a brother, Harry, in Huntington Park, Cal., who has been notified of the death while an aged mother who lives m South Lancaster, Mass., has not been notified because of her extremely poor health. Courtley Was a veteran of World War II.
