Eagle Valley Enterprise - March 28, 1963

Herman Erickson, 73, of Gypsum, died in Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle March 26, 1963, following an illness of five months. Mr. Erickson was born at Dotsero, Eagle County, May 11, 1889. He spent his childhood in Gypsum and for a time living at Silt and in south California, but lived most of his life in the Gypsum area.

On August 20, 1917 he was married to Miss Mae Otten in Glenwood Springs. The couple lived in Silt from 1929 to 1936 and in California from 1937 through 1940. Mr. Erickson served as a mechanic in the infantry on the Mexican Border during World War I. He was a member of the IOOF and Rebekah Lodges at Gypsum; American Legion Post 150, Gypsum. He is survived by his wife of Gypsum; one son, Richard L. of Dove Creek and four grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. John Mann at the Gypsum United Methodist Church March 29. Graveside services at Cedar Hill Cemetery were conducted by the American Legion and the IOOF Lodge of Gypsum. Farnum Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
