George Emmett Flaherty died Sunday Jan 29 at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. He was 87. Mr. Flaherty, a former resident of Gilman, and Red Cliff, was a retired blacksmith and steel sharpener. He was born January 5, 1897 in Leadville where he spent his childhood and attended school. He married Eleanor Mae Reed on July 11, 1920 in Denver. She died in 1973 in Grand Junction. Mr. Flaherty was a resident of Grand Junction for 20 years. Survivors include two sons, Emmett of Fountain and Richard of Meeker; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Calahan-Edfast Mortuary of Grand Junction. Interment was in the Elks Cemetery of Leadville.
