DICK HAGGART KILLED IN RAIL ACCIDENT.
Richard HAGGART,popular Gypsum young man was killed when a train struck him east of Colorado Springs early Monday morning, August 13. Dick was operating a welding machine on the track when the tragedy occurred. He was working with another young man, who jumped clear of the oncoming train. He said they didn't heart the train because of the noise of the welding machine.
Dick was a civilian worker at Fort Carson and had lived in Pueblo for two years.
He was born in Smith Center, Kansas July 26, 1932 and came to the Eagle-Gypsum area in 1946.
He graduated from Eagle County High School in 1951 and served in the Air Force. While stationed in England he met and married Miss Kathleen M. CLARK [sic CLARKE].
The funeral service was conducted Friday afternoon, August 17 at the Gypsum Methodist Church by Reverend John MANN. The Eagle River American Legion Post 150, of which Dick was a member, had military graveside service in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Gypsum.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen and three children: Sherry, 8 years; Warren, 6 years and Kim Arlene, 4 months, all of 1811 Mohawk Rd., Pueblo; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne HAGGART of Gypsum; three brothers: Bill, who is with the Air Force in Hawaii; Jerry H. of Denver and Charles of Gypsum and one sister, Mrs. Tom (Bernadine) DALEY of Peyson, Utah.
