Services for Nannie A. HOYT were held Thursday, Aug. 11, at Eagle Baptist Church in Eagle. Rev. Bruce DUNSDON officiated.
Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Gypsum. The Sowder Funeral Home of Rifle was in charge of arrangements.
HOYT was born Nannie Alma CARR, the daughter of Claude clarence and Lauretta Agnes VanHorn CARR, on Dec. 15, 1903 at Dotsero. Her family lived on Deep Creek and she attended the Dotsero School.
When she was 12 years old, her family moved to the Upper Gypsum Valley. She attended school in Eagle and graduated from Eagle County High School at Gypsum.
After the death of her father in 1918, her mother took the family to Gypsum to live.
following her graduation from high school, she taught school for a period of time at the rural school on Cottonwood and the school in South Canyon near Glenwood Springs.
She married Ammi Hineman HOYT on Feb. 1, 1925 at Glenwood Springs. They lived near Radium where he was engaged in ranching, later to work in the mines at Alma.
Following the depression, they returned to Eagle County where they lived in the Gypsum and Wolcott communities. Ammi HOYT worked in the mines at Gilman and later returned to ranching in Gypsum Valley.
Nannie HOYT made her home in the Gypsum community for many years, passing away at her home on Aug. 7, 1983.
She enjoyed her yard and caring for her plants and was a member of the Eagle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Royce, and a sister, Ora GERARD.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Bud GATES of Burns; a sister, Violet ORR of Gypsum; 10 grandchildren, Kip GATES, Doug GATES, Vienna SOURS, Nancy GATES, Tamie BELDEN, Linda ROEHM, Barbara BURCHARD, Randy HOYT, Jim HOYT and Crystal HOYT; 18 great-grandchildren, one niece, three nephews, other relatives and many friends.
