Description

The mines in Gilman, Colorado, opened in 1886 amid the western mining frenzy at the turn of the century. This once booming area provided growth and a fledgling economy for a growing population well into the 1950s. The mine and town was eventually abandoned per orders from the Environmental Protection Agency in 1984. Gilman now stands as a ghost town outside Red Cliff, Colorado. John Brown was an employee at the Gilman Mine in the 1940s and 50s. Magazines, booklets, and general information about the New Jersey Zinc Company, Gilman, and the Eagle Mine. This collection contains publications, magazines, annual reports, and a typed history of Gilman mining.
